Happy Money Monday: Terminology Talk! Today we're talking MERs (or management expense ratios).
We've been talking fees on your funds and an MER is one many clients are curious about.
So what is it?
An MER is a "hidden fee" made up of the management fee that the fund company charges to pay the fund manager. The MER also includes the cost of the fund's day-to-day expenses and HST. MERs are an important part of the management of your investments and can range from below 1% to above 3% so be sure to take these into account when looking at potential earnings on your accounts.
